The new Mazda RX-Vision Concept car has been unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show and it clearly shows manufacturer’s intention to make a new sports car with rotary engine that will dominate its range.
Mazda RX-Vision Concept Details
So, finally, after lots of false information, the new Mazda RX-Vision is here, but the bad news is there aren’t much specifications available. All we know is that under the hood is an all-new next-gen rotary engine named SkyActive-R with fuel economy, reliability and emissions problems solved (major three issues with previous rotary engine).
We still don’t know anything about horsepower, displacement, nor any other technical details. On the good side, this two door, two seat, concept car looks astonishing and it is described as “Mazda’s vision for the ultimate in front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car styling”. The car’s rear SkyActive rear platform is not related to the one on MX-5.
At least we can say that its dimensions are known. The Mazda RX Vision is 4389mm long, 1925mm wide, 1160mm long, with a wheelbase of 2700mm. Use of existing Kodo language is still obvious, while some elements are kept in order to preserve the spirit of Mazda’s sports tradition.
Mazda RX-Vision Concept Interior
The manufacturer didn’t give away too many details regarding the Mazda RX-Vision interior. Obvious simplicity and minimalism are well blended with a high-tech expression and handcrafted warmth.
The cockpit is made is high quality materials, while three-spoke steering wheel, chrome accents and a simple instrument panel make you feel the high performance atmosphere.
Mazda RX-Vision Concept Release Date
It is still early to know the exact Mazda RX-Vision release date. However, we estimate that the first car based on this concept will be ready for 2017, in order to mark the 50th anniversary since the first Mazda’s car with rotary engine (Mazda Cosmo).
