The new 2016 Mazda2 comes under the slogan “Inspire your lifestyle” and according to the very first glimpse (and very few words that came out about it) it will offer very stylish exterior, better performance and fuel economy. However, one of the downsides – it will not be available in the US. Reasons for this may be in very high demand on other markets and that manufacturer is not very convinced this model will be interesting to US buyers. Anyhow, let’s take a quick look what new Mazda2 offers.
2016 Mazda 2 Engines and Specs
Under the hood of the new 2016 Mazda 2 will be a choice between three engines: 1.3-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, SkyActiveG 1.5-liter four-cylinder (75 hp) and brand new SkyActiveD 1.5-liter diesel four-cylinder (103 horsepower and 184 lb-ft torque). We are happy to hear that Mazda confirmed that both automatic and manual transmissions will be available.
2016 Mazda 2 Exterior and Dimensions
We can see that 2016 Mazda2 remains true to its Kodo design language. On the front, between angular headlights is recognizable grille with chromed frame. Refreshed look is also present around back with horizontal taillights and overall, this model resembles very much to critically acclaimed Hazumi concept. As we mentioned already, very few details are known so far, but we have some leaked figures when it comes to dimensions – the 2016 Mazda 2 wheelbase is 101.2 inches (3.1 inch increase), its length is 159.8 inches (6.3 increase), height is 59.1 (1 inch increase) and width is 66.7. We still don’t have info regarding overall weight.
2016 Mazda2 Interior
The 2016 Mazda 2 interior will also be revamped. It will have a new infotainment system, navigation and smartphone integration systems. The cabin on entry levels will be dominated in hard plastic while higher trims will feature lots premium materials. Mazda confirmed that this model will have the new i-ACTIVSENSE safety technology. The interior is not very luxurious but it gives a sporty feel.
2016 Mazda 2 Release Date and Price
In the end, we can say that the strongest card this car have is its design. Engines definitely need more power if Mazda wants to stay in race with competition in this segment. According to details known so far, this is all we can say.
The 2016 Mazda 2 price is not yet known, the same as the release date. All that is confirmed so far, is that 2016 Mazda 2 won’t be available in the US. Starting price of the 2014 five seater was $14,450. So many details are yet to be unveiled, so stay tuned.
