The first version of Lotus Evora was developed under the name “Project Eagle” and it was presented at the British International Motor Show back in 2008, after which, Evora S with a supercharged 3.5 liter was launched in 2010. The 2016 Lotus Evora 400 entered the production phase at the beginning of this year, and the car will be available in the US in early 2016.
This model will face some serious challenges on the market because it won’t only have to battle with competitors like Cayman, but it will also have to battle for any attention of the audience (this British manufacturer has been struggling for years). However, the new 2016 Lotus Evora brings a lot – it received a nice facelift and it brings a lot of power.
The manufacturer is promising: “The new Lotus Evora 400 will be the latest, pure and focused supercar from Lotus, combining high performance with legendary Lotus benchmark handling.”
2016 Lotus Evora 400 Specs, Top speed, 0 – 60
The new Lotus Evora 400 is powered by re-engineered 3.6 liter supercharged V6 engine which delivers 400 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque. This 55 horsepower increase over the previous model is enough for a top speed of 186 miles per hour and 0-60 mph acceleration in 4.1 seconds. The engine is paired with a six speed manual transmission.
The good thing is that despite this increase of power, overall weight of the car is actually decreased for 22 kg comparing the previous model and now it weights 1415 kg (approx. 3,119 lbs).
“Send an Evora 400 down a proper road and there aren’t many places you’d rather be.“, is probably the best description of the performance, given by Road and track.
2016 Lotus Evora 400 Exterior Design
The exterior of the 2016 Lotus Evora 400 received some major changes, and now it looks very modern, with more aggressive and sporty attitude. Its front is dominated by nicely designed headlights and huge air intakes with LED running lights. Around back, all elements blend nicely, giving overall very attractive appearance with the new taillights, redesigned diffuser and center placed exhaust.
2016 Lotus Evora 400 Interior
Oh where to start when the story comes to the Lotus Evora 400 interior. The whole cabin is built in high quality materials, and each interior trim (Standard, Leather, and Alcantara) will have specific details, but let’s mention a few. The new leather covered front seats are now three kg lighter, magnesium-alloy steering wheel is also leather covered… And basically, whole cabin is covered in Alcantara and other types of leather.
Technology wise, 2016 Lotus Evora offers a lot, including high-end infotainment with 5 speaker Alpine audio system, reversing camera, rear parking sensor, push button start, air conditioning system etc.
2016 Lotus Evora 400 Price and Release Date
Starting price of the 2016 Lotus Evora 400 is $89,900 excluding additional local expenses and optional equipment. As we previously said, production phase started at the beginning of 2015 and it will be ready for the market at the beginning of 2016.
We hate to jump to conclusions and we won’t say that considering the circumstances mentioned by many bloggers, and the competition, this battle might be lost for the new Lotus. We would rather say that this might be a comeback of this British car maker, thanks to revamped design, powerful engine and lots of luxurious features.
