The new generation 2016 Chevrolet Volt made its debut at 2015 Detroit Auto Show showing improvements in performance and efficiency thanks to the new, second generation Voltec propulsion system. Besides new exterior and aerodynamics updates, the new Chevy offers updated interior and wide range of additional features available.
2016 Chevrolet Volt Engine Specs
The second generation 2016 Chevrolet Volt comes with two motor drive units which together offer twelve percent raise in efficiency and 100 pounds of weight loss compared to the current model. The reason of this weight-reduce partly lies in new battery that’s powering one of the engines – it offers a capacity of 18.4 kWh using 192 cells, which is 96 units less than on 2015 Volt and so its weight is reduced for 20 pounds. This electric engine will generate 149 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque. When battery runs out of power, gasoline engine which generates 101 hp will start producing electricity for it.
These two engines provide 19% improvement in acceleration by developing 0-30 mph in 2.6 seconds and 7% improvement by accelerating to 60 mph from a standstill in 8.4 seconds. The new 2016 Chevrolet Volt lets you drive for 50 EV miles using only electric power while consumption of 1.5 liter engine is rated at 41 mpg. Other handy features include GPS location based charging, intuitive charge status indicators and portable cord set enhancements.

On the front of the new Volt is new, slimmer grille with massive apron grille below and a bit larger headlamps built with vertical LED units, giving together sportier look but keeping the recognizable Volt appearance. Around back are very prominently redesigned taillights, tailgate and bumper. Slick and sporty design is also visible on the sides where new, redesigned wheels make very important role. Seats can be leather trimmed, but most of other surfaces are plastic, however, it’s very nicely and futuristic designed with metallic accents. Updated safety features include standard rear view camera, ten airbags, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, side blind spot alert, advanced park assist and many more.
Exterior colors available are Heather Gray Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic, Summit White, Mosaic Black Metallic, and three premium colors Kinetic Blue Metallic, Siren Red Tintcoat, and Iridescent Pearl Tricoat.
The 2016 Chevrolet Volt interior is built to provide intuitive and pleasant driving experience. It offers seating for five, lots of room and goodies like a heated steering wheel as well as heated front and rear seats. Above center console is a 8 inch LED touchscreen with Chevrolet MyLink system, while another 8 inch screen is the instrument cluster with updated graphics and more info available. Three spoke steering wheel is redesigned and its mounted control buttons are reconfigured.
2016 Chevrolet Volt Price
The new 2016 Chevrolet Volt price starts from $33,995 for the LT trim and and $38,345 for Premium. If you decide for one of three premium colors, the price will go up – Kinetic Blue Metallic or Siren Red Tintcoat will bump the price for $395, while Iridescent Pearl Tricoat will set you back for $995. Driver Confidence Package with Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change Alertand Rear Cross Traffic Alert cost additional $495.
