The 2016 Audi R8 belongs to the second generation of R8s and it has been unveiled at Geneva Motor Show this year. This is a true sports car which is manufactured since 2006. At Neckarsulm factory every day 50 workers make around 5000 parts by hand and around 15 complete vehicles per day.

2016 Audi R8 Engine Specs

The new 2016 Audi R8 will be available in three versions, but this time without V8 engine. Instead of it there is only 5.2 liter V10 offered in two versions – V10 with 540 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque and V10 Plus with 610 horsepower and 413 lb-ft torque. Both variants will be paired with 7 speed S Tronic transmission, which will distribute all this power to four wheels. Besides these two, 2016 R8 e-Tron also went through some updates and now it offers amazing output of 472 HP and 679 lb-ft of torque. The 2016 Audi R8 V10 will need 3.5 seconds to reach 0-60 mph, while reaching 201 mpg top speed. Now, 2016 Audi R8 V10 Plus takes amazing 3.2 seconds for 0-60, on its way to the top speed of 205 mph, while the 2016 R8 e-Tron needs 3.9 seconds for 0-60 mph. According to Green Car Reports, the e-Tron is rated at either 131 or 155 mph top speed.

Thanks to capacity of 92 kWh, electric version can be driven for 280 miles before recharge is needed, but thanks to the new system, the battery can be charged in just 2 hours.

2016 Audi R8 Exterior Design Changes

When it comes to exterior, the 2016 Audi R8 is not significantly different from its previous version. The biggest changes are visible up front with new air intakes, smaller grille and new LED headlights which come standard, while new laser modules will be optional. Some new technologies are incorporated into new Audi R8, before anything, CFRO – aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced plastic. Thanks to this technology, new R8 kept its dimensions, but it’s lighter 110 pounds. Dimensions of the vehicle itself are – 174 inches length, 76.4 inches width and 48.8 inches height. The overall appearance of the car is powerful, it looks very modern and sporty.

2016 Audi R8 Interior

Changes are more visible in the 2016 Audi R8 interior, than looking from the outside. The first thing customer can notice is completely redesigned flat bottom steering wheel with mounted controls. There are also new sport seats with improved lateral support, thanks to updated headrests and deeper pockets (standard on V10 Plus, optional on V10).

Inside is also Audi’s Virtual Cockpit which displays very useful information on 12.3 inch screen which replaces old instrument gauges. The driver can customize which information will be displayed or won’t.

Instrument cluster and center console also went through changes and controls are now easier to reach and without six speed manual transmission it features S tronic switch. As part of standard equipment Audi R8 offers MMI navigation, MMI touchwheel and Audi Connection.

2016 Audi R8 Price and Release Date

The 2016 Audi R8 price (for EU market) will start from around 185,000$ for V10 while V10 Plus starts from around 210,000$ and it will appear during second half of 2015.
